Property Tax Rules / Procedure

  • Payment of Property Tax

  • The assesee should make property tax payment by Cheque or Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Revenue Officer, Corporation of Chennai” at anyone of the following modes:

  • Through the Tax Collectors,
  • Through banks under walk in payment system (IOB, CUB, KVB, HDFC, IDBI, Canara Bank, TMB, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Lakshmi Vilas Bank, Yes bank and IndusInd Bank (even by cash),
  • At all e-seva centres (Common Service Centres) set up by State Government through Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable Television Corporation established in all Taluk Offices of Chennai District, Zonal Offices, Divisional Offices, & Head quarters of Greater Chennai Corporation,
  • Basic laboratory Services
  • On-line at www.chennaicorporation.gov.in with “Nil” transaction fee by using Credit Card, Debit Card and through Net Banking,
  • Assessment of Property Tax:

  • The citizen may follow anyone of the method for the submission of application for assessment of property tax:

  • The citizen may submit his request along with the following details through the online citizen portal available in website www.chennaicorporation.gov.in
  • The citizen should obtain user id and password by furnishing the user name and mobile number or email id in citizen portal.
  • After obtaining the user id and password citizen should furnish the following for submission of application through online:

Name of the Assessee :

Location of Property :

Area :

Location :

Street Name :

Door Number :

Contact Number :

(The assessee should submit the hard copy of the documents such as registered documents in his/her favour, filled application form and last tax paid receipt if any in case of demolition and reconstruction or vacant land tax is being paid by the assessee)

  • The citizen may submit a request at anyone of the TACTV counters located in GCC premises with the following:
  • The letter of request with address details and contact number
  • Copies of the registered documents in his/her favour
  • Filled in application form (Form-6)
  • Copy of the property or vacant land tax paid receipt(if the building is constructed by demolishing the earlier construction or the land is assessed earlier for vacant land tax)
  • The applicant will receive an acknowledgement through SMS for receipt of the request
  • The citizen may also submit a request at Concerned Zonal Offices/ Head Quarters with the following:
  • The letter of request with address details and contact number
  • Copies of the registered documents in his/her favour
  • Filled in application form (Form-6)
  • Copy of the property or vacant land tax paid receipt(if the building is constructed by demolishing the earlier construction or the land is assessed earlier for vacant land tax)
  • Procedure to be followed for assessment of property tax

  • The application submitted by the applicant will be scrutinized by the Assessor.
  • After informing the applicant the Assessor will measure the newly constructed building and submit the proposal to the concerned officer.
  • After the field verification of the approval officer(if required) the proposal will be submitted to the Assessment Committee
  • The committee will select the proposals randomly to verify the correctness of the assessments.
  • After scrutiny, the committee will approve the proposals.
  • After approval of the committee the new assessment order (Notice 6) will be issued to the assessee. The assessees are also informed through SMS.
