Salient Features Of Buildings Department

Buildings Department is one of the departments functioning in Greater Chennai Corporation. Buildings Department functions with the following officials.
  • Chief Engineer
  • Superintending Engineer
  • Executive Engineers
  • Assistant Executive Engineers
  • Junior Engineer/Assistant Engineer
  • Section Managers and other employees.

    • The following Buildings are being constructed for the usage of Public :

  • Public and Community toilets
  • All Chennai schools including Primary schools, Middle schools, High schools and Higher Secondary Schools.
  • Health Buildings like Urban Community health centre, Urban Primary Health Centre, Maternity Hospital, Communicable Disease hospital, Health and Wellness centre and others.
  • Office buildings of Greater Chennai Corporation own use.
  • Depots of maintenance of vehicles used in Greater Chennai Corporation.
  • Crematorium Construction.
  • Community halls Construction
  • Anganwadi and Kitchen shed Construction.
  • Buildings for Nutritious Noon meal Program.
  • Shopping Complexes and other buildings.


    • New construction works are executed by concerned zones in coordination with the buildings department. Noon meal shed and Anganwadi constructions are being done. The construction of Health and wellness centres has been completed. Public convenience, Community toilets in slum areas including children’s toilets, urinals at important locations and e-toilets are also provided for the use of the general public.


    Community halls are constructed for public usages like Marriage functions, get-togethers and gatherings of the public.


    Shopping complexes have been constructed for usage of Vendors who seeks groceries, vegetables, and flowers etc.


    Greater Chennai Corporation has the following buildings for purposes like Schools, Medicals, Night Shelters, Community halls, Dispensary, Office Buildings and others.
