Chennai to Host India's Largest Street Music Festival: Awesome Weekend - Live Green, Love Blue
Chennai, 19 December 2024 – In a strong move to address the city’s pressing environmental challenges, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) in collaboration with On the Streets of Chennai, a thriving music community, proudly present Awesome Weekend: Live Green, Love Blue—India's largest street music festival. This spectacular event is set to take place on 21st and 22nd December 2024, celebrating urban greening and water conservation through the universal language of music. The festival will showcase 150 street music performances across the city, spanning over 150 hours, and will transform Chennai’s parks, beaches, streets, metro stations, and residential communities into vibrant music hubs. By combining music, creativity, and social media engagement, the festival aims to raise awareness among Chennai’s youth and the larger community about building a greener, water-secure future for the city.
Event Highlights
1. Music Across the City:
Diverse performances by local and emerging artists in 30+ locations:
- Parks
- Metro Stations
- Beaches
- Heritage Venues
2. Unique Engagement Activities:
To complement the music, GCC has organized innovative, hands-on activities to inspire collective action for sustainability:
Hug a Tree:
Participants hug a tree, post a photo on social media with @chennaicorp, and receive a certificate.
Sow a Seed, Sing a Song:
Get seed balls from music bands, sow them in parks or lakes, sing a song, and tag @chennaicorp to earn a certificate.
Music for Chennai’s Green Future:
A call for music bands to compose original Tamil songs on the theme “Live Green, Love Blue.”
Greenஇசை மேடை:
Ten individuals from the audience will be selected to perform songs about Chennai, greenery, or water during the festival.
Photo and Sketch Walk:
Capture Chennai’s natural beauty at Kotturpuram Park and MRC Pond.
Eco-Themed Performances:
Flash mobs and dance performances will be held to spread the festival’s eco-conscious message.
3. Apartment Performances:
Special musical acts in residential communities to promote rainwater harvesting and sustainable practices.
4. Grand Finale:
The festival will culminate with a breathtaking grand finale at Thiruvanmiyur Beach on 22nd December 2024, at 7.30 PM. Students from The Chennai School, under the administration of Greater Chennai Corporation, are set to perform a parade at the final showdown of the event.
