BUS ROUTE ROADS DEPARTMENT
 
INTRODUCTION
 

A clean city revolution has taken place in the city of Chennai in the form of development of Roads. This Department is incharge of improvement and maintenance of Bus Route Roads in Chennai City comprising of 305 Kms.

All Capital works like relaying of road, traffic improvement works like Widening, forming Footpath, Traffic Island and Construction of Centre Median with Granite stone and Grill.
1)Department. BUS ROUTE ROADS DEPARTMENT.
 
2) Particulars of Function and comprising of Duties This Department is in-charge of improvement and maintenance of Bus route roads in Chennai City 305 K.Ms.The following works are entrusted with this Department.
  1. All capital works like relaying of road, traffic improvement works like widening, Forming footpath, Traffic Island and construction of Centre median with granite stone and grill.
  2. Special Schemes - Construction of Modern Bus Sheltors, Construction of Multi-level Car Parking, Foot-over bridges, and Beautification of Marina and Elliots Beach, Traffic signs etc .,
  3. JNNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission) Scheme being carried out at Zone-I to X.
  4. Registration of Contractors for Road works under Class I to V.
  5. Granting permission for OFC companies for laying optic fibre cable according to rules and regulations by collecting relevant track rent from the companies.
  6. Establishment matters, Filing of Income-tax return for the ministerial staff as well as contractors, Sales Tax and Tender book sales account.
  7. Court matters, Councillor’s Questions and Answers, C.M.cell/Mayor petition, obtaining the respective Committee’s approval.
 
3) Powers and duties of Officers and entrusted Employees Superintending Engineer/Bus Route Roads Dept is the Head of the Department controlling all the works with BRR Department with the assistance of Executive Engineers, Asst.Exe.Engrs, Assistant Engineer, Junior Engineers, Section Manager, Assistants, Junior Assistant, Shorthand Typist and Typist. The employees under the control of Superintending Engineer/BRR should discharge the duties entrusted to them.

7) Name and Designation of the Public Information For the entire Greater Chennai Corporation Public Information Officer is Chief Engineer/General and Assistant Public Officer/Asst.P.I.O. Information Officer is Chief Accounts Officer(Gl) For BRR Department Superintending Engineer/BRR is P.I.O. and Executive Engineer is A.P.I.O.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SUPERINTENDING ENGINEER/BRR
  1. He is the Head of the Department for Bus Route Roads Department and Parks Department.
  2. Two Executive Engineers, 12 Asst.Exe.Engineers and 1 Asst.Engineer and 2 Junior Engineers are now posted under his control to carryout the official duties.
  3. He is incharge for improvement and maintenance of Bus Route Roads in Chennai City comprising of 305 Kms.
  4. All capital road relaying work, traffic improvement works like widening, centre median etc.,
  5. All the major improvements in parks in Chennai City.
  6. To discharge the instructions given by the Commissioner and other higher officers then and there.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF EXECUTIVE ENGINEER/BRR - II
  1. He is incharge of B.R.R. and Traffic works relating to Zones I to V and other works relating to his Zones.
  2. He is incharge of all Establishment matters of BRR, Income Tax, Sales Tax matters.
  3. He is in-charge of Registration of Contractors for Road works under Class I to V.
  4. He is incharge of granting permission for laying of optic fibre cables and O.F.C. meeting and also other general matters.
  5. He is incharge of Court matters, Council subjects, Chief Minister’s Special cell petition, and Standing Committee subjects relating to Zones-I to V and also to attend any other work entrusted by the higher authorities from time to time.
  6. He is also incharge of Special schemes of works entrusted to B.R.R. Department (Bus Shelter, Multi level car parking etc.)
  7. He is also incharge of JNNURM scheme being carried out at Zone I to X.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF EXECUTIVE ENGINEER/BRR - III
  1. He is incharge of B.R.R. and Traffic works relating to Zones VI to X and other works relating to his Zones.
  2. He is incharge of Special schemes of Marina and Elliots Beach Beautification projects.
  3. He is incharge of court matters, all Government references, Council subjects, Standing Committee subjects and deletion of audit objection relating to Zones-VI to X.
  4. He is incharge of Dams Road work in Zone-VI under M.P.Scheme Fund and also to attend any other work entrusted by the higher authorities from time to time.
